Mixed Paint

Welcome!
I don't know about you, but this is the time of year I
like to get busy cleaning and refreshing the inside of our home.
I write a list of the jobs I would like to see finished
come summer time and then I get busy.
I don't always get through the list, but it's usually a crazy HUGE list.
Mission impossible, kind of list.
However, this spring I have managed to make off most of
my painting projects! Wonderful feeling!
And today I am excited to share with you my freshly painted master bath.
I found a great deal on paint when I did our bedroom.  And if that
wasn't enough, I managed to squeeze out enough paint
 to create a fresh ensuite.
Got. To. Love. That!

I actually mixed one part Arden Forge with one part
white, making the dried walls a soft blue, with out being
too femine.  I think I would name it lavender blue.
I don't know how I did it, but it matches the color
swatch I was going to have mixed.

Using up paint and supplies from the paint closet made this
paint project FREE!

As I work from room to room on my list, I like to
update different issue that we are having in each space.
This bathroom  needed pretty storage. So after hanging the shelf up
I bought baskets that nestled neatly on it.

You can see our bedroom update HERE

Hope this inspires you to play in your home!
Now I'm on to the kitchen!
No painting involved, just some serious cleaning and a few 'art' projects!

Fresh Paint-getting things done!

Good Morning! I'm feeling pretty happy that we are into November. This year I was ready to take Halloween down early.  Weird, well, weird for me. I'm super excited to get on with my Christmas decorating.  BUT before that I have a bit of a to-do list for around the house.

First thing, the hallway.
The Hallway has felt very bland and dated to me lately. It was painted when  we moved in  from a ketchup red, please excuse the blurry picture, to this warm light brown.  Nothing wrong with it, but I am in need of change, and it's only paint.

First the red...

then we went to a warm light brown...

and now...a fresh grey/blue.

My tastes are definitely headed into a new direction, farther away from the neutral color scheme that I was so comfortable with.   Instead I am drawn to blues, purples, I am even playing with the idea of
a  green and grey mix for our dining room table set.  I am still on the fence with that one, but , it is in the thinking process!  Again, it's only paint...and maybe a little fabric.
Back to the hallway...
I did think about stencilling this wall, but that's been dropped for the moment.

After painting I realized that some of my trays would look fun on this wall.  They add the texture and playfulness I was looking for.  I've hung my favourites up and now I am on a hot pursuit for a few more pieces to fill in the holes.

Maybe even working my way with the basket/tray gallery onto the living room wall adding in the large clock.

With a fresh coat of paint on the foyer walls, I've decided to switch up some of my mirrors in the house.  Pulling these two mirrors out of my daughters bedroom, giving this space a fresh feel.

Another to-do was  the Chalkboard wall.  I needed to  paint the entire wall with chalk board paint...why did I only paint a patch before?

Chalkboard wall painted and cured. LOVE IT!

Now I need to practice my chalkboard art.
Alright, I've knocked off a couple of things from the "to do before Christmas Decorating" list.
Now I'm working on a few more project, then I will share again.
Hope you are all staying warm.

Master Bedroom with a Boho Vibe

Welcome!
It's my bedrooms turn, and
I have been eyeing up this room for some time.

With multiple paint chips sticky tacked in various spots for quite some time,
unable to make a decision...do I go light and airy or cozy and darker?!?
(You can see a paint chip on the top right corner of picture below).

Finally, I decided with cozy and warmer.
Arden Forge by CIL.
I had it color matched to go into Ralph Lauren paint
at Home Depot.  I walked in to a paint sale, $16 a can!
They had sold out of the base that I needed but  they
mixed me five quart size cans instead, at $6 a can. You're probably
wondering why I bought the extra can, I was planning
on  painting the bathroom the next day. It was a little bit
more than the sale pricing,  but still a great deal.

I was afraid this color would be too dark,
or we wouldn't like the purple undertones.   But we can change it.
Repainting a room isn't too much work, lol,
The sun really changes the color, ranging from dark blue
back to a purple-blue. Very cozy.  I decided to paint
the tray ceiling white, giving it a clean look.

Below, it was painted shortly after we moved in, 2010, and now in dire need
for a change.

And before that, below is from the real estate photos.

Loving the results of the paint and
keeping with my true nature, I reused all of my old furniture,
treasures and linens. For a few reasons, I love the
history of our 'stuff', plus I am fairly thrifty.
As everything found a spot, I felt a little boho style coming on.
Not a full on, but definitely a little shot of it.

Maybe a little eclectic.  I like mixing things up.
I like color, but not too much. Lot's of natural and neutral tones.
 Textures always help as well.
And I enjoy seeing our treasures.
Just this side table alone has a real mix, a sparkly lamp with a french shade,
my little sleepy Buddha, silver, galvanized...I love it all!

oh, and plants! I can't seem to get enough.
Partially due to this extreme Canadian winter, and I love plants.

The plant below was a 'rescue' plant, bought for a song,
and the basket has been borrowed from our rec room.

There will be no repainting, we love it!
No regrets on the dark color. I am so glad I took a chance..
Hope you step out of your comfort too!
It may take you in a whole new direction.

Poppy Seed Blue

If you have been here before, then you are aware of my thrifty side.
I would much rather reuse then replace.
I look at all the lovely furniture out there,
readily available, but I just can't do it.
I just can't replace until I have squeezed every
last bit of life out of it.

This little cabinet is a perfect example.
We bought two of these cabinets, one just a little deeper to
hold an old school style TV, way back in 1993.
They were raw wood and needed assembly.
I was all about pink at the time,
so I white washed them a slight pinkish/white.
Sorry, no picture.

Then, a few years later I got into the country shaker  look
and thought that a terracotta wood tone would be nice...
so the wash was sanded out and terracotta stained and sealed.
Again, no picture.

THEN, about 10 years ago they were painted a linen cream,
and I changed out the knobs for rose
coloured crystal knobs. They worked very well up until recently
(see picture above).

I think I just needed some more colour.
And I picked out a navy blue.  I liked the navy
cabinet, but it changed the wall colour too much.
Pretty, but just a little too bright blue.

I went back to the paint chips,
and found what I needed,
POPPY SEED.
I LOVE the results!

It has a greener base to it.  And its working nicely
with the wall colour.

I'm sure you can see why my family thought I lost my mind...
the colours are so very close.
But that's ok! I'm so happy I repainted it.
Some new knobs were added and it
has a new lease on life.

So there you have it,
It's only paint, and if it doesn't make you happy,
get out that roller and brush and have some fun!

Abby

....now what should I do
 with my baking cupboard.......

Laundry Day

If you have visited here before,
you know I have gradually been painting every room.
 Exchanging the dramatic colors
for a 'quieter' atmosphere.
I have painted a lot of walls/rooms in my lifetime,
always, I am amazed at how the room changes with paint.
Finally, I have mustered up the courage to face the laundry room
it has been taunting me for 5 years...
has it been 5 years???
Small awkward spaces are physically challenging to paint.
A little painting and yoga!

I got all the sample pots of the swatches I liked, then tested them on the wall.
I just couldn't decide what color to use.  I liked the idea
of using a cottage green, but they just weren't working for me.

They weren't working with the adjoining spaces either.

After checking the colors with lights on and the lights off,
checking to see how they look coming into and out of the room,
it became clear that I am still loving Normandy Gray.
Which is the grayish blue color I used in the living room.

Everything removed from the room, I repainted.
I did a little editing as well.
Note to my Mum: THE DRYER IS FIXED!!!
Before it sounded like a jet plane
hovering over our laundry room...
it was taken apart, and with the help of you-tube, repaired.
 :))))

I repainted the jacket holder,
(I'm a big believer in reusing and recycling)

...Black Chalk Paint with a stencil...

distressed and dressed up my plastic storage baskets...

 and hung a mirror.
I'm looking for an ornate mirror
but I haven't found IT yet, for now, this one will do.
If you look top right corner, in above picture, you can see it.

 Tada!

Now this room feels fresh and calm.
An inviting welcome home.

Thanks for visiting!
